Chevy vs. Ford Showdown: 2002 4.8L Silverado against 2011 6.2L Ford 150
The Chevy vs. Ford is a never-ending battle. The reason for that is quite simple – the battle between the two automotive behemoths has been raging on for more than a century now. Only the infamous hundred years’ war between the French and the English can probably match the rivalry between them. Yet, it seems that these two car manufacturers are only just warming up their engines. In the last decade or so, the competition between Chevy and Ford trucks for the race of the best pickup has been more of a stalemate, with both sides churning out equally remarkable lineups of trucks. However, if you do not like to take the middle ground, and need something to push you on either side, then the video above might be of help you with it.
In this video, a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 races against a 2011 Ford 150. Now I know what you are thinking. What’s with the huge difference between the make years? Well, of course, in an ideal case, the 2011 Ford should perform better than the 2002 Chevy. But you see, this Chevy is far lighter than the Ford pickup. While the Chevy is a 2-door variant, the Ford 150 is a 4-door variant. Naturally, the weight of the Ford should put up some heavy resistance to its movement, in comparison to the Chevy.
Don’t think this new fact totally shifted the luck in the favor of Chevy. Wait till you hear the next bit. The Chevy comes with a 4.8L Vortec 4800 V8 engine, which is good for a 2002 model, but is hardly the best by today’s standards. On the other hand, the Ford pickup is fitted with a 6.2 L V8 engine, which is quite a powerful machine. So, in simple terms, the Chevy V8 delivers about 270 horsepower and 285 lb.-ft. of torque, and its Ford counterpart manages to deliver a massive 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.
So basically, here we have a pretty old Chevy Silverado that is relatively lightweight, and with a less powerful engine, against a Ford 150 that is quite new, packs a powerful engine, and weighs significantly more than the Silverado. If given a chance, who would you bet your money on in a race? Is the Chevy better than Ford, or the other way around?
And did we tell you that the race is as real as it gets! No mud trails, or race tracks where you normally see the Chevy trucks vs. Ford trucks tournaments. Instead, these two drivers decided that they will have a showdown right on the highway, in the middle of the traffic! That’s right, these two trucks burning their tires on the asphalt as the other vehicles zoom by. Fast and Furious, maybe?
The funny thing is, as these two guys are racing it out, another random guy decides to join the fun, and gives them a race with his own machine too. But, his ride is clearly built for speed, which he isn’t shy of showing off either, and simply zooms ahead, leaving the two trucks to battle it out with each other. Mind you, this says nothing about these trucks’ capabilities. These pickups are built for very different purposes.
So click on the video and see for yourself who shines the most. There is no doubt that the experience is thrilling, but if you are ever going to try such stunts, we advise you to do that somewhere away from traffic. As you can see in the video, these drivers knew when to sacrifice their win, when they came across a car or two on the road. This is not always easy and things tend to get out of hand.
